This letter summarizes the conversation that Mr. Trenerry,
Mrs. DeCoster, Mr. Shepard, Mr. Avery and I had with you and Mayor
Vavoulis in the Mayors office regarding property owned by the city
that is adjacent to the property around the Alexander Ramsey home in
St. Paul.
Fragments of three lots have resulted from the straightening
of Ramsey Street between Seventh Street and Exchange Street,by the
City Public Wor Department. These fragments are portions of lots
12, 13 and 14. Ramsey Street.
of
Ramsey home. as stai,Ltoicsit.e:'he Eamsey home has been Filled
to he. Society by Mrs. Anna E. R. Furness, who still resides in the
home, and her late sister, Laura. The home was not _on_lv_th residence
of the state's t AK4L- vial governor u i is a them as es
s e home of the Victorian eri.od.. The State g9.stoiical Society
wig n ain sin it as an historic s e open to the pWilfo-
erving a mb lic ose. Thus, it will be of direct b efi`to
e i Ty0f St. Paul in contributing to the cultural benefit of the
city.
Under present circumstances the Ramsey home property is crowded.
on all sides except the Ramsey Street side. This additional property
would definitely improve the setting of the home and would better equip
the State Historical Society to accommodate the thousands of persons
who will visit the home in years to come. _
The officers of the Minnesota Historical Society hope that the
City of St. Paul will be able to transfer the ownership of this property
from the City to the State Historical Society._
