WHEREAS, it appears that the Auditorium is confronted
with an emergency which arises by virtue of the fact that certain
of the temporary seating thereat has reached such a state of
obsolescence that such temporary seating should be replaced
and also by virtue of the fact that additional temporary seating
is urgently needed to take care of public demand at certain
events held at the Auditorium; and
WHEREAS, it further ,appears that With the withdrawal
of the Minneapolis Basketball Corporation from Minneapolis to
Los Angeles, there has been made available for sale by the
Minneapolis Basketball Corporation certain items of material
and equipment as hereinafter set forth:
?1W assorted colored folding chairs,
26 storage pallets,
Steel riser equipment described as follows:
2 sections measuring 160 ft. by 32 ft.
1 section measuring 104 f t. by 64 ft.
1 section measuring 100 ft. by 56 ft.
One electric clock and scoreboard, and
Two glass portable basketball backboards
complete with baskets,
all of which -items of materials are urgently needed and desired
by the Auditorium, and all of which can be purchased from the
Minneapolis Basketball Corporation for the sum of $40,000.00,
a very reasonable figure for such equipment, provided the same
are purchased immediately as a single purchase from said Minneapolis
Basketball Corporation, now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Saint Paul
hereby finds that 'an� emergency exists where failure to act
promptly will work injury to the City and entail additional
expense to the taxpayers of said City and therefore directs the
Purchasing Agent to purchase those items of equipment and supplies
hereinbef ore described for the sum of $409000.00 without asking
for competitive bids, providing the Comptroller and the Mayor
consent thereto and indicate such consent by their signatures
