RESOLVED, by the.Council of the City of Saint Paul, that said Counci.i,
in behalf of said City and its citizenry, hereby takes and records official cog-
nizance of the extensive and consistently meritorious and valuable career of
municipal and military service rendered by Colonel Paul J. Calder for and in the
interests of said City and his country. Colonel Calder, a graduate of St. Thomas
Military Academy, served nine months in the First Iowa Infantry in 1916 on the
Mexican border, 1+!E years in the Signal Corps in World War I, -v s a member of the
149th Observation Squadron, Minnesota. Air National Guard until inducted with i -__
the squadron in World War II, serving 52 years with the Air Force; in 1950 was
appointed Director of St. Paul Civil Defense and in 1956 became Commander of
Division I of UNICOM operations, the civil defense organization which covers,,
Ramsey, Washington, and Dakota. Counties, and in all of these assignments gave
exceptionally valuable service, until, on the 19th day of June, 1961, he was
summoned from this life by tAl mi ghty God; be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, that this Council, in its own behalf and that of
the citizenry of the City of Saint Paul, extends sympathy and condolence to the
family of the deceased, and does hereby authorize and direct that'the City Clerk
cause an engrossed copy of this Resolution to be prepared and delivered to
Doris Calder, the wife of the deceased, with all convenient speed.
