O'Connell CityClerk Building Dear Madam: This is in the matter of the application of the Socony Mobil Company . for a permit to in and operate a new filling station on property located at the southwest corner of Third and Etna Streets. A copy of the legal description is,attached. On March 18, 1961, the City Council reclassified this property from "A" residence to commercial district except the westerly 15 feet which is still "A" residence. The site is presently vacant and the applicant proposes to develop it with a filling station. The site has a frontage of 135 feet along E. Third Street and 113 feet along Etna Street, result - Ing'in a total area of 15,255 square feet. Directly west and adjoining is vacant land classified "A" residence, farther to the west are single - family residences fronting on East Third Street; directly north across East Third Street is vacant land; northwesterly across said street are single - family residences; east and across Etna Street is the rigbt -of -way of proposed Highway # 212, farther to the east are single - family residences fronting on Birmingham and E. Third Streets; directly south and adjoining is vacant land now classified commercial, farther south is the Eastview Shopping Center now under construction. The Traffic Engineer and planning staff have reviewed the applicant's plans and find they meet the standards for this type of facility and therefore have recommended approval. The Board of Zoning considered this matter at their regular meeting on May 18, 1961. Inasmuch as the property was recently rezoned for this specific purpose and the plans meet the required standards, the Board of Zoning recommends the granting.of the permit to install and operate a filling station on the above described property in accordance with plans approved May 18, 1961.
