To Minnesota Municipal Officials, State League Directors, and Other Friends of
Clarence C. Ludwig:
As many of you have already learned from the newspapers, Clarence C.
Ludwig, Executive Secretary of the League of Minnesota Municipalities and.
Director of the Municipal Reference Bureau of the University of Minnesota from
1935 to 1959, died suddenly on February 10 at his San Jose, California home.
die- suffered a heart attack early in-the evening and died within a few minutes.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 14, at the Lima,
Salmon and Erickson Cathedral Chapel in San Jose.
Clarence Ludwig brought to his Minnesota position a wealth of information
and municipal know —how out of his prior career in municipal government research,
in his work for the International City Managers? Association and the American
Municipal Association, and;in his service as the first city manager of Albert
Lea from 1928 to 1932. Because of his vigor, his idealism, his sense of dedi-
cation, and his competence, he.left an indelible imprint upon the cities and
villages of Minnesota and upon the League, which grew immeasurably in size and
stature during his quarter of a century here. I know you will all share our
sense of loss and extend your sympathy to Mrs.. Ludwig,
Clarence Ludwig is survived by his wife, Virginia, who lives at,14i1,
Cherrydale Drive, San Jose 25, California, and his son, John, of Pinellas Park#
Florida. The family has asked that instead of flowers, -remembrances be serkt.to
the University of Minnesota Memorial Fund,in his name.
Sincerely yours,
Orville C. Peterson
