WHEREAS, The Commissioner of Parks and Fbecreation and
Public Buildings has reported, in accordance with
Section 53 of the City Charter, the existence of
an emergency during the period from .February 1 to
15, 1961, Which rendered necessary the employment
of certain employees of the Department of Parks
and Recreation and Public Buildings for more than
eight hours per day or forty hours per week in
doing the following works
Supervision, operation, maintenance, care
and protection of public parks 'and play
grounds and of their facilities.
And WHEREAS, This emergency arose by reason of the
following facts and circumstances=
Seasonal requirements for protection of
public property and pursuit of depart-
mental activities, such ass Civic events
and municipal sports and playground pro-
grams, particularly the Winter Carnival,
required increased time and effort of an
unforeseen but temporary natural heating
plant for the Conservatory and Zoo mutt
be tended around the clock; more employees
than usual on illness - leave; and break-
down of equipment required immediate
repair.

Resolved, That the proper city officers.
are hereby authorized to pay certain
employes in the Department of Parks
and Recreation and Public Buildings
for extra employment as described in
the resolution.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED That the proper city officers
are hereby authorized to pay the employees who per-
formed such work in accordance with.the provisions
of the Councills salary ordinance, ordinance No. 6446.
