WHEREAS, The Commissioner of Parks and Recreation and
Public Buildings has reported, in accordance
with Section 53 of the City Charter, the existence
of an emergency during the period from January 1
to 15, 1961, which rendered necessary the etmployw
ment of certain employees of the Department of
Parks and Recreation and,Public Buildings for
more than eight hours per 4j- or forty hours per
week in doing the following work=
Supervision, operation, 'maintenance., care
and protection of public parks and play-
grounds and of their facilities.
And WHEREAS, This emergency arose by reason of the
- following facts and circumstances=
Seasonal requirements for protection of
public property and pursuit of depart-
mental activities, such as: Civic events
and municipal sports and playground pro-
grams required increased time and effort
of an unforeseen but temporary nature;
heating plant for the Conservatory and
Zoo must be tended around the olock;
many employees on illness - leave; and
breakdown of equipment required immediate
repair.

Resolved, That the proper city offi-
cers are hereby authorized to pay
certain employes in the Department
of Parks & Recreation & Public Build-
ings for extra employment as described
in the resolution.

THSREFCRE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the proper city officers
are hereby_authorized to pay the employees who per--
formed such work in accordance with the provisions
of the Councills salary ordinance, Ordinance No.
6446.
