WHEREAS, The Commissioner of Parks and Recreation and
Public Buildings has reported, in accordance
with Section 53 of the City Charter, the existence
of an emergency during the period from December
16 to 34 1960, which rendered necessary the em..
ployment of certain employees of the Department
of Parks and Recreation and Public Buildings for
more than eight hours per day or forty hours per
week in doing the following work=
Supervision, operation, maintenance, care
and protection of public parks and play.
grounds and of their facilities.
And WHEREAS, This emergency arose by reason of the
following facts and circumstances:
Seasonal requirements for proteetion of
public property and pursuit of depart.
mental activities, such as: Civic event;
and municipal sports and playground pro.
grams required increased time and effort
of an unforeseen but temporary nature;
hesiting plant for the Conservatory and
Zoo must be tended around-the clock j
unusually large percentage of Zoo ear
ployees on leave enforced by illness;
sanding boulevards and parkways on holi-
days ,and week. ends; and breakdown of
equipment required immediate repair.,

Resolved, That the proper city offi-
cers are hereby authorized to pay
certain employes in the Department
of Parks and Recreation and Public
Buildings for extra employment as
described in the resolution.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED,, That the proper city officers
are hereby authorized to pay the employees who
performed such work - in accordance with the pro-
visions of the Council's sa]ary ordinance, Ordin-
