WHEREAS, Greenheck Inc. is a manufacturer of heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment
(HVAC); and

WHEREAS, inspectors from the Department of Safety and Inspections are charged inspection of HVAC
equipment to ensure that it is properly installed as mandated by the building code; and
WHEREAS, the installation of HVAC equipment is very complex, with different types of products required
far different locations, building materials and other variables. Because of these complexities, DSI inspectors need
extensive training; and
WHEREAS, the construction codes are constantly changing and routinely refer to manufacturer
specifications. Each manufacturer has different specifications for their own products whicl� are approved by
reference in the construction codes. There are constantly new products being created and therefore used in
construction. This further increases the complexity and need for training; and
WHEREAS, Greenheck, Inc. is offering a hands-on demonstration of proper installation and operation of
laboratory fume hood e�aust systems, commercial kitchen ventilation systems and fire/smoke dampers and
applications. Greenheck has designed a training seminar specifically for building inspectors and is offering tbe
trai�ing for these inspectors at Greenheck's expense. The training will be offered to two (2) warm air inspectors that
are employed by the Department of Safety and Inspections; and
WHEREAS, tbe semioar is being offered to inspectors from various jurisdictions and includes one night
hotel stay and two meals; and
WHEREAS, the seminar will be held on October 8, 2007 at the Greenheck manufacturing facility in
Schofield, Wisconsin; now therefore be it
RESOLVED, that the City of Saint Paul along with the Department of Safety and Inspections thank
Greenheck, Tnc., and gratefully accept this special offer for training, lodging and meals.

I am asking for your approval of a Resolution authorizing the Department of Safety and
Inspecrions (DSI) the opportunity to send two Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning
(HVAC) Inspectors to a complimentary training opportunity offered by Greenheck Inc. in
Schofield Wisconsin.
At this training taking place October 8, 2007, our inspectors will be afForded a unique
opportunity to learn proper installation of laboxatory fiztne hood exhaust systems, commericai
kitchen ventilation systems and fire/smoke dampers and their proper applications.
