These volunteers provided over 33,329 hours of free labor in 1998 and this is the only form of recognition ehat they receive. The cost o£ the banquet wi11 be approximately $7,000.00. It wi11 be held on Saturday, April 27, 1999, at the Holiday Inn East, Saint Paul. This amount will cover all meal ecpenses . NTAGESIFAPPROVED: is is the only vehicle we have to recognize the tremendous service that these groups provide to the City and the Police Department. Every public event in the City such as the Winter Carnival, Taste of Minnesota, Grand 01d Days, etc., enjoys the support of these volunteers. In fact, without their help, we probably couldn't adequately staff these events. , It is very important to the morale of these groups that we take the time to recognize tiheir contributions_ We also present awards and plaques at the hanquet to those volunteers who contribute the most, wLich is an incentive to the rest. The likely result would be significant attrition in member—. ship. With the increase of activities in Saint Paul, such an attrition would be devastating to our ability to address the growing number of events.
