WHMF,A,S, The Commissioner of Parks and Recreation .and
Public Buildings has reported, in accordance with
Section 53 of the City Charter, the existence of
an.emergency during the period from February 1 to
15, 1962, which rendered necessary the employ
ment of certain employees of.the Department of
Parks and Recreation and Public Buildings for
more than eight hours per day or forty hours,
per week in doing the following work: ,
Supervision, operation, maintenance,
care and protection of public parks
and playgrounds and of their facilities.,'
And WHEREAS, This emergency arose by reason of the
following facts and circumstances:
Seasonal requirements for protection of;
public property and pursuit of depart-
mental activities, such as: Civic
events and municipal sports and play-
ground programs required increased time
and effort of an unforeseen but temporary
nature; breakdown of equipment required.
immediate repairs; regular employee on ?
indefinite sick leave; during the heating
season, the plant for the Zoo and Green-
house must be tended constantly; and
heavy snow, ice and cold demanded extensive
sanding of boulevards and parkways.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the proper city officers
are hereby authorized to pay the employees who
performed such work in accordance with the pro-
visions of the Councils s salary ordinance, EB 16 1962
