ADDEND NO. 1
AREAWAYS, COAIHOLES AND ZAP-DOORS
In various locations the contractor will encounter subterranean structures
where it will not be possible to construct or install lighting conduit and bases
in the normal manner described in the specifications. When areas of this type
are encountered it will be necessary to make the following changes.
Lisht Bases. When it is found necessary to install a light base in an
areaway or other subterranean structure the base will be constructed to the
full depth of the area encountered. When it is found that no satisfactory
foundation exists for the extended base it will be necessary to excavate one
foot in depth and the same area of the base and extend the base the additional
one foot. Reinforcement shall consist of four vertical No. 4 deformed bars
installed 12 inches on center in the form of a square and shall be tied with No.
4 hoops placed 12 inches on center.
The approximate number of light bases that will be encountered is estimated
to be ten and the average depth is estimated to be approximately 12 feet.
C ns.dM t. When it is not possible to install conduit in the normal manner
as outlined in the specifications the contractor shall fasten the conduit to the
subterranean structure wall to the satisfaction of the Chief Engineer. The
location of this conduit shall be within eighteen inches from the ceiling or
roof of such structure.
The length of conduit that will be installed in this manner is estimated
to be approximately 715 lineal feet.
= --BMe_s• When the location of pull boxes are such that they fall within
the area of subterranean structures they will be moved to the closest area where
there is a firm base existing and installed to the satisfaction of the Engineer.
