That the, proper City offi- cers are hereby authorised to pay ce_r_tain_e_mployes_ in the_ Department of Parks and Recreation & Public $uildings for extra employment as de- scribed in the resolution. Adopted by the Council December 18, 1962. Approved .December 18, 1962. (December 22, 1962) WHEREAS, The Commissioner of Parks and Recreation and Public Buildings has reported, in accordance with Section 53 of the City Charter, the existence of an emergency during the period from December 1 to 15, 1962, which rendered necessary the employment of certain employees of the Department of Parks and Recreation and Public Buildings for more than eight hours per day or forty hours per week in doing the following work; Supervision, operation, maintenance, care and protection of public parks and play- grounds and of their facilities. And WHEREAS, This emergency arose by reason of the following facts and circumstances; Seasonal requirements for protection of public property and pursuit of departmental activities, such as; Civic events and municipal sports and playground programs required increased time and effort of an unforeseen but temporary nature; breqkdown of equipment necessitated immediate repairs; during the heating season, the plant for the Zoo and Greenhouse must be tended constantly; and flooding time at the skating rinks is regulated by the weather and temperature. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the proper city officers are hereby authorized to pay the employees who per- formed such work in accordance with the provisions of the Council's salary ordinance, Ordinance No. 6446.
