1 WHEREAS, Saint Paul Pazks and Recreation operates Como Park Zoo and Conservatory, including various conservation
2 programs that aze related to both specialized animal and plant conservation and also general environmental conservation, and
3
4 WHEREAS, the City staffs work related to these conservarion efforts is au�nented by the tireless work of
5 volunteers, without which the program could not be successful, and
6
7 WHEREAS, Vicki Scheunemann, Como's Conservation Officer, which is a volunteer position, attended the Associarion
8 of Zoos and Aquariums' (AZA) Conservarion Conference, held in January 2007, as a representative of Como Pazk
9 Zoo and Conservatory, and

1 I WHEREAS, the AZA conserva6on conference is held yearly to support indushy conservarion efforts and to facilitate
12 coordinarion of such efforts and Vicki Scheunemanu is the designated point of contract at Como, and
13
14 WHEREAS, funds for the conference registrarion fees were provided by the Como Zoo and Conservatory 5ociery, and
15
16 WHEREAS, the City travel policy requires special authorization for travel expenses incurred by non-employees, and
17
18 WHEREAS, the public purpose of this travel is to support the Como Pazk Zoo and Conservatory conservarion program,
19 an essential progaxnu�atic element fox an accredited Zoo and an equally important programmatic aspect for prominent botanical
20 gardens, and
21
22 NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that reimbursement of up to $764.65 is authorized to Vicki Scheunemann for expenses
23 related to attending the AZA Conservarion Conference held in Houston, Texas on behalf of the Como Zoo and Conservatory.

IniSiating Problem, Issues, Opportunity (Who, What, When, Where, Why):
Vicki Scheunemann attended the AZA conservation conference in Houston, Texas in January 2007. Ms Scheunemann is Como's
Conservarion Officer, a volunteer positioa that requires hundred of hours of time a year (equivilant to a part time job). Como Zoo and
Conservatory Society grants supported conference regishation. Ms. Scheunemann supported a good deal of expenses including
transportakon and daily incidentals. Special authorizarion is required foi this limited reimbursement because Ms. Scheunetnann is not
an employee.
