Resolution Authorizing Acceptance of a Gift from the Como Zoo and Conservatory
Society Allowing City Councilmembers and the Mayor to Attend Como Zoo and
Conservatory Society's Annual Benefit Gala, Sunset Affair
1 WHEREAS, the mission of the Como Zoo and Conservatory Society is to support, improve, enhance and
2 promote Como Park Zoo and conservatory by securing funds from the private sector to invest in programs,
3 operations and facilities; and
4
5 WHEREAS, the Como Zoo and Conservatory are two of the City's most prized and visited assets; and
6
7 WHEREAS, the Como Zoo and Conservatory depends heavily on private donations to carry on its mission
and operations; and
10 WHEREAS, on July 26, 2007, the Como Zoo and Conservatory Society will hold its annual Sunset Affair
11 Benefit Gala fundraiser to support the Zoo and Conservatory, an event which has allowed for substantial
12 investments in strategic projects and programs at Como; and

14 WHEREAS, the price of tickets for the Sunset Affair Benefit Gala, which covers food, entertainment but
15 no liquor, is $150.00, of which $70.00 is tax deductible; and
16
17 WHEREAS, the Society has invited the members of the City Council and the Mayor, or his designee, to
18 attend at no cost, and to speak at the Sunset Affair Benefit Gala to demonstrate the City's support for the
19 Zoo and Conservatory, and as a means to indicate to attendees how important these assets are to the
20 community. Now, therefore be it

RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Saint Paul does hereby authorize acceptance of the gift of
free attendance for the members of the Saint Paul City Council and the Mayor, or his designee, to the
Como Zoo and Conservatory Society's Sunset Affair Benefit Gala on Thursday, July 26, 2007, to be held
at Como Zoo and the Marjorie McNeely Conservatory; and
FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Saint Paul finds that attendance and participation
in this event by members of the City Council and the Mayor or his designee serves the public purpose of
promoting outstanding pub]ic park and recreation services, especially the Como Zoo and Conservatory;
and

32 FINALLY RESOLVED, the Council of the City of Saint Paul extends its most sincere thanks to the
33 Como Zoo and Conservatory Society for this gift and for its continued support of the Como Zoo and
34 Conservatory.
