from 16 to 23 units and to extend the parking lot on property on the
west side of Snelling Ave. between Taylor Ave. and Pierce "Butler Road, described

Dear Madam:
This is in the matter of the application of the Midway Motel to enlarge
an existing motel from 16 to 23 units and to extend the parking lot on
property located on the west side of Snelling Avenue between Taylor Avenue
and Pierce Butl and described as Lots 2, 3, 4, Block 1, College
Place Taylor's Mori. The zoning is "C" residence.
The property has a frontage of 150 feet on Snelling Avenue extending to
a depth of 176 feet, resulting in an area of approximately 26,400 square
feet. North and south adjoining are apartment buildings which will be
acquired by the Highway Department in connection with the up- grading of
Snelling Avenue, also a single - family residence which fronts on Taylor Ave -
nue; east and across Snelling Avenue is the Hamline University Campus;
west and across an unimproved public alley are two single - family residences.
The Traffic Engineer has approved the parking lot plan which meets the
standards for this type of facility. At the time of upgrading Snelling
Avenue, the existing driveway to this facility from Snelling Avenue will
be eliminated, and ingress and egress to this motel will be provided by
a service drive to Taylor Avenue. Field investigation discloses no ob-
jection to this expansion as the applicant is providing a generous amount
of off - street parking spaces. The expansion will be provided by the addi-
tion of a second floor over a part of the existing units.
In consideration of the above factors, the Board of Zoning recommends
the gra'nti'ng of the permit to enlarge an existing motel and accessory
off - street parking lot in accordance with plans approved October 4, 1962.
On October 16, 1962, the City Council informally approved the application.
