WHEREAS, The Commissioner.of Public Works has reported, in
accordance with Section 53 of the City Charter, the existence of
an emergency during the period from October 16 to October 31,;1963,
which rendered necessary the employment of certain employees of
the Department of Public Works for more than eight hous per day
or forty hours per week in doing the.following work:
Emergency street, building, sewer and bridge repair.
Dispatching men for emergency repair work.
Dispatching motor vehicles for all emergency.. work.
Operating equipment on emergency repair work.
Emergency calls for sewer maintenance
Tending fires at Asphalt Plant on Sundays & holidays.
Taking care of complaints at city yards.
Drawing plans and specifications for grading and paving jobs.
Servicing municipal equipment.
Making up sidewalk assessment reports.
Inspecting city improvement jobs.
Watching Municipal Equipment during off hours.
And WHEREAS, This emergency arose by reason ofthe following
facts and circumstances:
Necessity of answering all emergency repair calls, keeping
city streets free from debris, keeping fires at Asphalt Plant
continuously, taking complaints at City yards, completing plans
and specifications for grading and paving jobs, need for grade
profiles and house numbers, completing sidewalk assessment reports,
keeping city equipment in good running condition, and inspecting
work done by contractors on city street and sidewalk works.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED That theproper city officers are
hereby authorized to pay the employees who performed such work in
accordance with the provisions of the Council's Salary Ordinance
No. 6446.
