Resolved, That the per City
officers are hereby authorized to pay
certain employes in the Department of
Parks & Recreation & Public Buildings
for extra employment as described in
the resolution.

WHEREAS, The Commissioner of Parks and Recreation and Public Buildings
has reported, in accordance with'Section 53 of the City Charter,
the existence of an emergency during the period from July 1 to 15,
1963, which rendered necessary the employment of certain employees
of the 'Department of Parks and Recreation and Public Buildings for
more than eight hours per day or forty hours per week in doing the
foll owing work::
Supervision, operation, maintenance, care and protection
of public parks and playgrounds and of their facilities;
and equipment repair for the Department of Public Works.
And WHERE-4S. This emergency arose by reason of the following facts and
circumstances:
Seasonal requirements for protection of public property
and pursuit of departmental activities, such as: Civic
events and municipal sports and playground programs
required increased time and effort of an unforeseen but
temporary nature;"breakdown of equipment necessitated
immediate repairs; spraying of trees best in early morn-
ing hours; heavy weekend patronage of parks and park
refectories; and storm damage to boulevard trees required
immediate attention.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED., That the proper city officers are hereby
authorized to pay the employees who performed such work in accor-
dance with provisions of the Council's salary ordinance, Ordi-
nance No.. 6446.
