Robert Labore that the hearing regarding. putting sidewalks on Ames between Ruth �- _ ,= and - Nokomis .is being_,held­T- uesday,- .March _26. , The Nokomis 'P. T. A. which- represents the parents and teachers . of Nokomis School 'serving this area is concerned' about the safety and welfare of all the children of the neighborhood. Certainly having sidewalks available to eliminate-the hazard of children walking in the street is- in the best interests of the children of this neighborhood. The Nokomis P; T.. A. has been ',very active in its safety program this _year. There has been inauguarated a system of having mothers assist the school patroli-Provide more'adequate protection for children at the busier intersections in the area. The situation on Ames is undoubtedly, a greater problem now than it was,before because of a new regulation-governing the depositing &'picking up children. East bound,cars are all routed on Ames Avenue. A copy of the bulletin explaining the plan to parents is attached. This plan was- devised after a,conference involving the principal, Miss Maloney, Mr-.-Williams, assistant Superintendent of Schools,.Lt. Ray Anderson and Mr. Vern Peterson, St. Paul.Traffic Engineer., According to our records there are at present ten families with eleven children who must walk on-this street to'get to and-from Nokomis r school. There are other children who must use the street-in this block who attend Ames and St. Thomas school. An officer of the Lincoln Park Association has also brought,to my attention a- report to the city council dated July 15, 1953,which was- made-by a special-committee to consider*the•sidewalk problem in St. Paul.' It is also attached-. A regular meeting of the Nokomis P. -T. A. is.scheculed for the evening of Tuesday, March 26. -If affirmative action has been taken this can be anno6nced.a t that time. Amount signed for on said petition - 1,042.12 ft. or 70.15% (Amount required by Charter - 50 %) Number of resident owners involved 44 Number who signed said Petition - 29 or 65.91% (Amount required by Charter - 60%) From the above facts you will note that the petition of remon- strance is sufficient. Yours very truly, James J. gush Commissioner of Finance PETITION OF REMONSTRANCE TO: Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council of the City of St. Paul: we, the undersigned, constitute more then sixty per cent (600) of the resident owners of the property effected; and, own more then fifty per cent (50 %) of lineal frontage on the line of improvement, proposed in the preliminary order No. 210870, approved by an "intermediary order" with your Honorable Mayor and members of the City Council on January 18, 1963- The improvement contemplated by the preliminary order No.210870 is the construction of a new sidewalk on both sides of Ames Avenue between the intersecting streets of Ruth and Nokomis in the City of St. Paul. We do hereby petition the mayor and City Council to discontinue said improvement and preliminary order, in compliance and pursuant to the provisions of Chapter XIV Section 243 of the City Charter of the City of St. Paul.
