WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Saint Paul has been
advised that application has been made by the Soo Line Railroad to the
Interstate Commerce Commission for discontinuance of passenger trains
Nos. 13 and 14, between Saint Paul, Minnesota, and Portal, North Dakota; and
WHEREAS, this Council finds and determines that the discontinuance
of these trains would be inimical to the interests of said City and its
inhhbitants and destructive of established public and private economies
within said City's corporate limits, and that said proposed discontinuance
is in no part required by or permissible as a matter of public convenience
and necessity; be it
RESOLVED, that said Commission hereby is advised that the City
of Saint Paul objects to and protests against any such proposed discontinuance
of passenger train service, and that the City requests the Commission to
schedule and conduct a hearing on the aforesaid matter at an appropriate
place; be it
FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Clerk is hereby directed to send
a copy of this resolution to the Railroad and Warehouse Commission of the
State of Minnesota.

This office has received information to the effect that the
Soo Line Railroad Company has petitioned the Interstate
Commerce Commission to discontinue its passenger trains Nos.
13 and 14, St. Paul, Minnesota to Portal, North Dakota.
Upon receiving a sufficient number of rotests from communi-
ties involved the Interstate Commerce Eommission will set
dates and locations for hearings relative to this proposed
passenger train discontinuance.' The,various Chambers of
Commerce, businessmen, shippers, etc., have been, or will be,
notified to write letters of protest to the Interstate
Commerce Commission objecting to this proposed discontinuance.
I respectfully request that you, as Mayor of the City of
St. Paul, write a letter of protest at your earliest
convenience, to the Interstate Commerce Commission, Washington,
D.C., objecting to this proposed discontinuance of Soo Line
passenger trains'13 and 14. Please request that hearing be
held in Glenwood, Minnesota. I would appreciate very much if
you would send a copy of your letter to the Minnesota Railroad
and Warehouse Commission.

matter.
