1 WHEREAS, Polaz Seaz Intemavonal (PBn has declazed 2008 the "Yeaz of Ihe Polar Bear", a pro�ram that will utilize key
2 zoos as cen[ers of conservation education; and
4 WHEREAS, PBI s[rives to be a key educationa] resource for polaz bears woddwide through the development of
� strong communications that represent PBI as a key resouroe for inEorma[ion on polaz beazs; and
7 V✓HEREAS, PBI �s hosting a workshop m Columbus, Ohio Mazch 27-30, 2007 to bring together staff from PBPs primary zoos
8 to help plan program components that fulfill the education and at[endance goals of their zoo through education programs,
9 promo[ions and even[s as they w�ll rela[e to [he "Year of the Polaz Bear' ; and

11 V✓HEREAS, participafing zoos are directly responsible to deliver these programs at the'u zoos dunng 2008; and

13 WHEREAS, Michelle Furrer and Stephanie Kappel, two staff inembers from Saint Paul Pazks and Recreation - Como Campus,
14 have been lnvited to attend the wo�kshop; and

16 WHEREAS, PBI wil] cover all woikshop expenses during the pazticipants stay in Columbus, with pazticipaung insrit�6ons
17 required to provide uansportation to and from the workshop; and

19 WHEREAS, Puks and Recreation wishes to accept the contribution from Polar Bear International, estimated to be $2,000,
20 to cover all costs mcurred by City staff dunng theii stay at the workshop; and

22 WHEREAS, Samt Paul Pazks and Recreanon has fuuds avaiLable m its 2007 adopted budget to fund staff travel to t6�s
23 wockshop;and

25 NOW THEREFORP BE TT RESOLVEll, that the City of Samt Paul accepts Polar Beaz International's contc�bution of
26 workshop related costs to allow Michelle Furcer and SCephame Kappel to attend the "Yeaz of the Polar Beaz" woxkshop
27 in Columbus, Ohio March 27-30, 2007.

Initiating Problem, Issues, Opportunity (Who, What, When, Where, Why):
Polar Bear International has invited Como Park Zoo & Conservatory representitives, Michelle Furrer and Stephanie Kappel, to attend
the "Yeaz of the Polar Beaz" workshop. PBI has declared 2008 the "Year of the Polaz Beaz" and is bringing together industry leaders
to help plan program components that fulfill the education and attendance goals through education progams, promotions and events
as it related to "Year of the Polar Bear". PBI will cover all workshop expenses during the representatives stay in Colwnbus, Ohio.
Parks and Recreation wishes to accept this contribution, estimated to be in the amount of $2,000.

Como Park Zoo & Conservatory will help develop and lead the education and conservation efforts for polaz bears.
