Mortinson- Resolved, That the proper City offi- cers are hereby authorized to pay cer- tain employes in the Department of Parks and Recreation and Public Build- ings for extra employment as de- scribed in the resolution. Adopted by the Council December 3, 1963. Approved December 3, 1963. (December 7, 1963) WHEREAS, The Commissioner of Parks and Recreation and Public Buildings has reported, in accordance with Section 53 of the City Charter, the existence of an emergency during the period from November 16 to 30, 1963, which rendered necessary the employment of certain employees of the Department of Parks and Recreation and Public Buildings for more than eight hours per day or forty hours per week in doing the following work: Supervision, operation, maintenance, care and protection of public parks and play- grounds and -of their facilities. And WMREAS, This emergency arose by reason of the following facts and circumstances: Seasonal requirements for protection of public property and pursuit of departmental activities, such as: Civic events and municipal sports and playground programs required increased effort and time of an unforeseen but temporary nature; breakdown of equipment necessitated immediate repairs; during the heating season, the plant for the Zoo and Greenhouse must be tended con- stantly; and preparation for ice skating season timed to the weather. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the proper city officers are hereby authorized to pay the employees who performed such work in accordance with the provisions of the Councils salary ordinance, Ordinance No. 616.
