WHEREAS,,The Commissioner of Parks and Recreation and Public Buildings
has reported, in accordance with Section 53 of the City Charter,
-the existence of an emergency during the period from November 1
to 15, 1963, which rendered necessary the employment of certain
employees of the Department of Parks and Recreation and Public
Buildings for more than eight hours per day or forty hours per
week in doing the foll%i ng work;
Supervision, operation, maintenance, care and protection
of public parks and playgrounds and of their facilities.
And WHEREAS, This emergency arose by reason of the following facts and
circumstances;
Seasonal requirements for protection of public property
and pursuit of departmental activities; such as; Civic
events and municipal sports and playground programs
required increased time and effort of an unforeseen but
temporary nature;,'breakdown of equipment necessitated
immediate repairs; heavy weekend patronage of parks and
park refectories; during the heating season, the plant
for the Zoo and Greenhouse must be tended constantly;
and placing 11No Parking" signs for tree trimming on Sun-
day.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the proper city officers are hereby
authorized to pay the employees who pEerformed such work in
accordance with the provisions of the Councils salary ordinance,
Ordinance No. 6446.
