07-19Council File # �1' �1 Green Sheet # 3p35`�10 RESOLUTION CITY OF SAINT PAUL, MINNESOTA Presented by 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 31 RECOGNIZING THE SCIENCE MUSEUM OF MINNESOTA CELEBRATION OF MARTIN LUTHER HING DAY WITH NEW EXHIBIT - RACE: ARE WE SO DIFFERENT? � WHEREAS, the Science Museum of Minnesota, in partnership with the American Anthropological Association, has developed a major traveling e�ibition called RACE: Are We So Different? and is proud to host its national premiere and to manage the tour of the exhibition to cities around the U. S. during the next five years; and, WI�REAS, the educational goal of the RACE project is to help individuals of all ages better understand the origin and manifestations of race and racism in everyday life by investigating race and human variation through the framework of science; and, WHEREAS, the RACE e�ibition explores the themes of the science of human variation, the history of the idea of race, and the contemporary experience of race and racism in the United States; and, WFIEREAS, the St. Paul Travelers Foundation, The Saint Paul Foundafion, The Minneapolis Foundation, the Archie D. and Bertha H. Walker Foundation have supported the creation of special resources and programs for teachers, families and adults, along with a series of RACE Talking Circles in which groups may engage in meaningful conversations about race and racism in our communities; and, WHEREAS, the RACE e�ibition is an opportunity to build relationships among diverse communities and to increase the quantity and quality of conversations in our community; - NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council honors the Science Museum for hosting this e�ibit and encourages the public to take advantage of the learning opporiunities afforded by RACE: Are We so Different?; and be it further RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Councii declares Monday, January I5, 2007, to be Science Museum of Minnesota's "Race: Are We Really So DifferenY' Day in Saint Paul.
