Resolved, That the proper city offi-
cers are hereby authorized to pay cer-
tain employes in the Department of
Parks and Recreation and Public
Buildings for extra employment as
described in the resolution.

WHL,REAS, The Commissioner of Parks and Recreation and-, —
Public Buildings has reported, in accordance with
Section 53 of the City Charter, the existence of'an
emergency during the period from April 1 to 15,
196, which rendered necessary the employment of
certain employees of the Department of Parks and;
Recreation and Public Buildings for more than eight
hours per day or forty hours per week in doing the
following work:
Supervision, operation, maintenance, care
and protection of public parks and play-
grounds and of their facilities.
And WHMEA.,S, This emergehcy arose by reason of the follow-
ing facts and circumstances:
Seasonal requirements for protection of
public property and pursuit of departmental
activities, such as: Civic events and mun.i-
cipal sports and playground programs required
increased time and effort of an unforeseen
but temporary nature; breakdown of equipment)
necessitated immediate repairs; and during
the heating season, the plant for the Zoo and
Greenhouse must be tended constantly. 1

THMEFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the proper city officers
are_ hereby,authorized to pay the employees who per-
formed such-work in accordance with the provisions
of the Council's salary ordinance, Ordinance No. 6446.
