Resolved, That the proper city
officers are hereby authorized to - pay
certain employes'in the Department of
Parks and Recreation and Public
Buildings for extra employment as de-
scribed in the resolution.

WHEREAS, The Commissioner of Parks and Recreation and Public Buildings
has reported, in accordance with Section 53 of the City Charter,
the existence of an emergency during the period from May 1 to 15,
1963, which rendered necessary the employment of certain employees
of the Department of Parks and Recreation and Public Buildings for
more than eight hours per day-or forty hours per week in doing the
following work:
Supervision, operation, maintenance, care and protection of
public parks and playgrounds and of their facilities; and
equipment- repair for the Department of Public Works.
And WHEREAS, This emergency arose by reason of the following facts
and circumstances:
Seasonal requirement s for protection of public property and
pursuit of departmental activities, such as: Civic events
and municipal sports and playground programs required increased
time and effort of an unforeseen but temporary nature; break-
down of equipment necessitated immediate repairs; durinfg the
heating season, the plant for the. Greenhouse must be tended
constantly; Spraying of trees best in early morning hours;
heavy weekend patronage of parks and golf courses; and storm
damage to boulevard trees required immediate attention.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the proper city officers are hereby
authorized to pay the employees who performed such work in accord-
ance with the provisions of the Council's salary ordinance, Ordin-
ance-No. 6446.
