WHEREAS, the Commissioner of Public Utilities has
reported in accordance with Section 53 of the City Charter the
existence of an emergency during the period from August 16th to
August 31st, 1963 inclusive, which rendered necessary the employment
of certain employees of the-Water Department for more than eight
hours per day or forty hours per week in doing the following work:
(1) Repairing equipment, various stations.
2) Working extra shifts, various stations.
3) Inspecting new mains installed by contractor.
4) Driving country crew to and from work.
5) Installing service connections on new main constructed by
private contractor.
(6) Repairing main breaks, various locations.
(7) Hauling water main pipe on Saturday.
AND WHEREAS, this emergency arose by reason of the
following facts and circumstances:
(1) Necessary to do work during low consumption hours.
(2) Absence of employees on regular shifts.
(3) Necessary to do inspecting after day's work by contractor.
(4) On account of scattered work locations.
(5) Necessary to work after private contractor completed day's work.
(6) In order to restore service as soon as possible.
(7) Extra work on State job overtaxed crews and equipment.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the proper city officers
are hereby authorized to pay the employees who performed such work
in accordance with the provisions of the Council's Salary Ordinance,
Ordinance No. 6446. 1 -
