Celebrating Richard Radman Day in the City of Saint Paul
/D
WHEREAS, since his birth in 1917, Richard "Dick" Radman has been a life-long resident and supporter of the City of Saint
Paul; and,
WHEREAS, as a young man, Dick served three and a half years in the Navy during World War II, seeing action in both Europe
and the Pacific and participating in Nary boxing bouts throughout the United States; and,
WHEREAS, returning home to Saint Paul from the war, Dick initiated his career as a Plasterer; a vocation which would launch
his active participation in the labor movement; and,
WHEREAS, shortly afterjoining the Plasterers, Dick became their Business Agent, which led to positions as the Fi�ancial
Secretary for the Minnesota Building and Conswction Trades Counci] for I S years; Vice-President of the Minnesota AFL-CIO
in the 1970's; and Secretary of the St. Paul Building and Construction Trades Council — a position he held for 27 years until his
retirement in 1982; and,
WHEREAS, through his leadership on civic boards such as the Metropolitar� Waste Control Commission, the Saint Paul Port
Authority, the Civic Center Commission; the St. Pau] Children's Hospital Board and the Metropolitan Sports Facilities
Commission; Dick has had his fingerprints on almost every major public construction project in the Ciry of Saint Paul and
throughout the Twin Cities For the last half centwy, induding the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome; and,
WHEREAS, Dick has been an active participant in DFL politics throughout his ]ife, working alongside such political figures as
Hubert Humphrey, Walter Mondale, Warren Spannaus, Paul Wellstone, George Latimer, and many others to make Saint Paul
and Minnesota a better place in which to live; and,
WHEREAS, Dick has been devoted to his family and enjoys spending time fishing and cheering on the Minnesota Twins with
his two daughters, seven grandchildren, and sixteen great grandchildren;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council congratulates Dick Radman on the occasion of his
90`" Birthday; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that Tuesday, November 20, 2007, shall be Richard Radman Day in the City of Saint Paul in
reco�ition and thanks for his many contributions to the communiry.
