The Hospital Facility Building Commission, at its regular business
meeting held on August 12, 19636 approved a change order relative
to the use of stone on the first three floors of the main hospital
building. The cost involved in this change order is $300,739.30.
This change order affects the original construction contract for the
main hospital building as follows:

This quotation is based on having approved shop drawings br September 1, 1963
and all stone on the job by 1r ovember ,10, 1963.
Mankato Stone Company advise us that they can submit the first of the'
drawings within one week and all drawings within 'two weeks. ' Therefore,
if•this change can b'e processed in time to get the first drawings back
to them by September 1 and all back by September 10, the above price
is firm.
In the event approval of drawings is delayed beyond that point, we request
comaensation in the amount of $200. 00 per day.
We have anticipated changing all stone on this project except the Green
stone to lvlanla%to stone.

(d) Mortar for setting and pointing of Ashlar stone
shall be mixed as follows:
1 - Part of light portland cement
2 - Parts of lime putty
6 - Parts of sand.
(1) Mortar color, as selected by the Architect,
shall be non - fading mineral pigment.
(e) Approximately 80% of the Ashlar shall be four (4)
inches thick. The remaining 20% shall be eight (8) inches
thick. The eight inch stones shall be distributed uniformly
throughout the area of the Ashlar to provide a uniform wall
bond into the backing,

(f) Stone shall be fabricated from working drawings
prepared by the stone fabricator and approved by both the
Architect and General Contractor, Field measurements shall
be made by the General Contractor.
(g) The several colors of stone shall be uniformly
distributed throughout the area. Mortar joints shall not
exceed 3/8" and shall be raked out to a depth of 3 /4 "'as the
work progresses for subsequent pointing. Horizontal joints
shall be level and vertical joints plumb leaving edges of all
stone in a single plane and free from lipping and defects.
Any stone chipped or otherwise damaged will be rejected. The
back of all Ashlar including bonding stone shall be parged on
plastered with at least a 3/8" -thick continuous coat of setting
mortar to provide a waterproof and airtight course vertically
in the wall, and back -up material shall not be laid until
parging mortar has received its initial set. Care shall be
taken that all stone is free from mill dust or other foreign
matter and shall be thoroughly dampened with clean water before
being laid. Where Ashlar stone is used as veneer over concrete
spandrels, special approved anchors shall be used for anchoring
stone to concrete.
(h) After all other work has been completed, all stone
work set under this Section shall be properly cleaned down 4nd
pointed. Cleaning shall be done by scrubbing with soap and'
water applied vigorously with stiff fibre brush, and surface
then drenched with clear water. The use of sand blast, wire
brushes or acid will not be permitted. Immediately following
the cleaning and from the same scaffold, all pointing shall be
done. Raked joints shall be free of all loose particles and
thoroughly soaked with clean water before pointing. Pointing
shall be done by mechanics skilled in the trade and all points
filled full and struck off straight and tooled slightly con-
cave with oversize round jointer.

Contractors are requested to submit itemized quotations
within two weeks to the Architect's office, with copies to field
representatives, for the work called for in this modification.
Quotations shall be itemized as to the increase or decrease in
the cost of the work.
Work shall conform to the requirements of the specifi-
cations for the original contract wherever they apply.
This request for quotations does not constitute
authorization for proceeding with the work.

Add the following:
(b) Furnish and erect Mankato cut stone wall surfacing
for the first three stories in lieu of brick.
(c) Mankato cut stone wall surfacing shall be buff,
smooth machine finish and nominal 4" thick. Stone pattern
shall be as selected by the.Architect.
(d) Stone shall be fabricated from working drawings
prepared by the stone fabricator and approved by both the
Architect and General Contractor. Field measurements shall
be made by the General Contractor.
