WHFUtEAS, The Commissioner of Parks and Recreation and Public Buildings
has reported, in accordance with Section 53 of the City Charter,
the existence of an emergency during the period from June 16 to 30,
1963, which rendered necessary the employment of certain employees
of the Department of Parks and Recreation and Public Buildings for
more than eight hours per day or forty hours per week in doing the
following work:
Supervision, operation, maintenance, care and protection
of public parks and playgrounds and of their facilities;
and equipment repair for the Department of Public Works.
And Wr EaEAS, This emergency arose by reason of the folIot-ring facts and
circumstances:
Seasonal requirements for protection of public property
and pursuit of departmental activities, such as: Civic
events and municipal sports and playground programs
required increased time and effort of an unforeseen but
temporary nature;*breakdown of equipment necessitated
immediate repairs; spraying of trees best in early morn-
ing hours; heavy weekend patronage of parks and park
refectories; and storm damage to boulevard trees required
immediate attention.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the proper city officers are hereby
authorized,to pay the employees who performed such work in accor-
dance with the provisions of the Councilts salary ordinance, Ordi-
nance No. 6446.
