Dear Mr. Dalglish:
Your letter of June 7th advises that the Council of the
City'of St. Paul has under consideration Preliminary Order 212171
of April 16, 1963 which proposes to reconstruct the sidewalk on
both sides of Edmund Avenue from Hamline Avenue to Simpson Street
except where it is determined that good and sufficient sidewalks
exist.
I purchased my home from a contractor who had lived in it
until he died. He built the house for his family who were in the
contracting business with him and they poured the sidewalk from
the alley way on Albert to Edmund and from Edmund Avenue to the
west end of the lot.
May I assure the technical advisors in the Council that
the sidewalk from the curb facing Albert Street to the end of my
property line west in front of my home at 1402 Edmund Avenue is
in excellent condition. I would welcome an inspector from the
Public Works Department to make an examination and I am sure that
he would agree that my sidewalk does not need replacing.
It is true, however, some of the other property in the
above mentioned area can well stand new walks.
I desire to go on record that to tear up a perfectly good
walk would be ridiculous.
Yours truly,
John T. McManmon, Jr.
