WHEREAS, The Lincoln Avenue Bridge over the Short Line Tracks of the Chicago,
Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad Company was constructed in 1893 by contract,
with the Railroad Company paying � of the total cost and the City of St. Paul paying
1 5 of the total cost and the Citys share of the cost having been assessed as benefits
against the properties abutting Lincoln Avenue from Victoria Street to Snelling Avenue.
W AF WAS, Construction,of the proposed Short Line Road would require that said
bridge be remodeled and extended, reconstructed or abandoned, dismantled and removed;
and _
WHEREAS, The Traffic Engineer has conducted traffic surveys on said bridge and
bridge in the vicinity that indicate that the Grand Avenue Bridge over the Short Line
Tracks of said Railroad and the Summit Avenue Bridge over the Short.Line Tracks of
said Railroad have sufficient capacity to handle the traffic which is now and predicted
to be carried by the Lincoln Avenue Bridge in addition to the traffic which is now and
predicted to be carried by,'each respective bridge; and
WHEREAS, The .Chi cago,,1U1:waukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad Company has indicated
that they have no objection to closing that portion of Lincoln Avenue which crosses the
right -of -way and tracks of`said Railroad; and
`WHEREAS, It does not seem justifiable to spend large sums of money for the recon-
struction and extension ofithe present bridge which has a 20 foot roadway or for the
construction of a new bridge when present bridges in the vicinity will handle the traffic
sufficiently and it is desired that the Lincoln Avenue Bridge over the Short Line Tracks
of the Chicago, Milwaukee,�St. Paul and Pacific Railroad be abandoned, dismantled and
removed and Cul de Sacs constructed on Lincoln Avenue at the east side of said Railroad
right -of -way and the west side of the Short Line Road; and be it
RESOLVED, That a public hearing be held at 10'iO0 A.M. on February 5, 1963 in the
Council Chambers of the City Hall and Court House in the matter of abandoning, dis-
mantling and removal of the Lincoln Avenue Bridge over the Short Line Tracks of the
Chicago, Milwaukee,-St. Paul and Pacific Railroad Company and that the Commissioner of
Finance be directed to give -the usual notice of hearing to the abutting properties and
owners on Lincoln Avenue from. Victoria Street to Snelling Avenue.,.
