Resolved, That the proper city offi-
cers are hereby authorized to pay
certain employes in the Department
of Parks & Recreation & Public Btiild-
ings for extra employment as described
in the resolution.

WHEREAS, The : Commissioner of Parks and Recreation and
Public Buildingshas reported, in accordance with
Section;, 53 of the City Charter, the existence of
an emergency during ths.period from December 16
to 31, 1962, which rendered necessary the employ-
ment of certain employees of the Department of
Parks and Recreation and Public Buildings for
more than eight hours per day or forty hours
per week in doing the following work:
Supervision, operation, maintenance,
care and protection of public parks and
playgrounds and of their facilities.
And WHEREAS; This emergency arose by reason of the follow -
ing facts and circumstances i
Segsonal requirements for protection of
public property and pursuit of depart-
mental activities, such as: Civic events
and municipal sports and playgrounds pro-
grams required increased time and eff6rt
of an unforeseen but temporary nature;
breakdown of'equipment necessitated immed-
iate repairs; during the,heating season,
the plant for the Zoo and Greenhouse must
be tended constantly; flooding time at the
playground skating rinks is regulated by
weather and temperature; and storm damage
to boulevard trees required immediate
attention.
THEREFORE, ' BE IT RESOLVED, That the proper city officers
are hereby authorized to pay the employees who per-
formed such work in accordance with the provisions JAN 19
of the Council's salary ordinance Ordinance No. 6446.
