WHEREAS,
the Commissioner of Public Utilities has reported, in
accordance with Section 53 of the City Charter, the exis-
tence of an emergency during the period from December 16,
1962 to4'December 31, 1962 inclusive which rendered necessary
the employment of certain employees of the Department of
Public Utilities for more than eight hours per day or forty
hours per week in doing the following work:
Supervising the activities of the City Market,
Making emergency repairs to street lighting circuits,
Making air pollution tests,

WHEREAS,

this emergency arose by reason of the following facts and
circumstances:

Saturday and Sunday work made necessary beeause of
increased activity at the City Market due to the
sale of Christmas trees,
Overtime work required to restore street lighting
service immediately for public safety,
Work necessary at irregular hours to complete tests
forl1ederal agency,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED,
that the',proper city officers are hereby authorized to
pay the employees who performed such work in accordance
with the;'provisions of the Council's salary ordinance,
Ordinance No. 6446.
