WHEREAS, a City employee covered under the City's
Health and Welfare program has recently died, leaving the
surviving spouse; and
WHEREAS, there is a dissimilarity between Chapter
852 of Laws of Minnesota for 1963, the Act which authorizes
Ramsey County to pay health and welfare premiums for its
retired employees and the spouses of such retired employees;
and
WHEREAS Chapter 851, Laws of Minnesota for 1963,
which provides authorization for payment of health and welfare
premiums for retired City employees and the sVou�e$_., _ ti
of such employees, does not expressly authorize continuance
of premium payments by the governmental unit after the death
of the retired former employee as does the County Act; and
WHEREAS, it is the desire of .this body to have this
dissimilarity eliminated in the next session of the Legislature
so that the City Act shall be comparable to the act applying
to Ramsey County; and
WHEREAS, it is the desire and intent of the Council
to continue payments by the City of health and welfare premiums
,for any such surviving spouse after the death of a retired
City employee eligible for health and welfare coverage under
Chapter 851, now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Council of the City of Saint_ Paul
hereby authorizes the proper City officers, until the next
regular session of the Legislature of the State of Minnesota
in 1965, to pay, for a surviving spouse of a retired City
employee eligible for medical, surgical and - hospitalization
benefits pursuant to the provisions of Chapter., 851 of Laws of
Minnesota for 1963, monthly premiums in the amount of $11+.00.
