WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul is extremely proud to honor and reco�ize one of its vue legends, a man who for
yeazs has made a profound impact on his communiry, his Country, and his fellow man, the ever prominent Rabbi Bemard
Solomon Raskas; and
WIIEREAS, Rabbi Bemazd Solomon Raskas first came to Saint Paul's Temple of Aaron in 1948 to serve as a
student Rabbi, became their Assistant Rabbi in September of 1951, their Associate Rabbi in 1452, their Spirirual L,eader in
1953, and in honor of his 50�' year with the Temple of Aaron was recently names their Rabbi Laureate; and
WHEREAS, during his tenwe at the Temple of Aaron, Rabbi Bernard Solomon Raskas gew the congegation from
600 to 1,300 families and spearheaded the construction of the beautiful Mississippi River Synagogue whose contemporary
Jewish Architecture won the Guggenheim Recognition Award; and
WHEREAS, Rabbi Bernard Solomon Raskas has been an active leader in Jewish and civic affairs through his
service with the Boazd of the United Israel Appeal, the Saint Paul United Jewish Fund and Council, the Minnesota Boy
Scouts of America, the New York Jewish Museum, the United States Holocaust Memorial Council, the Minnesota
Psychoanalytical Foundation, the Minnesota Chapter of Religion and Mental Health, the Saint Paul Chamber of Commerce,
the United Way, the Saint Paul Human Rights Commission, the American Cancer Society, and serving as the first Jewish
Chaplain for both the Saint Paul Fire Deparnnent and the Minnesota House of Regresematives; and
WHEREAS, Rabbi Bemard So]omon Raskas is in every sense an author, with more than 200 published articles on
Judaism and additional works including a trilogy, Heart of Wisdom, a volume, Over the Years, and twelve different editions
of the Passover Haggadah, A Rabbinic Commentary on the New Testament, The Jewish Experience in America,
Contemporary Ethics from a Jervish Vrew, The Evolution ofthe Jewish Mind Source Reader, Universal values as Ref[ected in
Jewish Literature, and many liturgical programs in commemoration of Israel Independence Day, Holocaust Remembrance,
and major events in Jewish and American life; and
WIiEREAS, Rabbi Bemard Soiomon Raskas has received numerous awards including the Agus Award from the
Rabbincal Assembly, the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the Jewish Theological Seminary of America, the Service to
Humanity Award from the United Hospita] Foundation, and the highest honor bestowed by the Jewish Theological Seminary,
the Max Arzt Distinguished Rabbinic Service Awazd;
33 NOW THEREFORE BE TT RESOLVED, in honor of Rabbi Bemud Solomon Raska's 50 years with the Temple of
