There ispno qustion but that a uniform time standard through- out the United States would be desirable but Congress does not seem to show a great deal ;lof interest in such an arrangement. Bills have been introduced for mariy years which would prov.Lde a. standard system of time for the ent3re United States but it has always been diff3.cult to obtain su3ficient support to have it avorably considered. There is ',a• bill pending bfore the Interstate and Foreign Com- merce Committee, fl. R. 4702 which would provide for the adoptian of a. general standard time system in the United States for all purposes. It also prescribes de'finite standards sets penalties for violation and provides for enorcement. Whether or not hearings on this measure will be scheduled cannot be anticipated at this time. Hawever ',you may rest assured that I will be mindi'tii1. of the v3.ews expressed by the St. Paul City Council regarding daylight saving time should legislation o this type come to the Floor of the House for a vote. , ' Since ely yours ; , , _ , H.
