W�AS, The Commissioner of P�ks and Recreation and Public Buildings
has reported, in accordance with Section 53� of the City Charter,
the existence of an emergency during the period t'rom January 16
to 31, 196la., which rendered necessary the employme '�t of certain
employees of the Department of Parks and Recreatior� arid Public
Buildings for more than eight hours per day or forty hours_per
week �s�. doing the following work:� .
Supervision, operation, m�n.ntenance, care a.nd. protec-
tion of public parks and playgrounds and of t eir
. facilities; and snow plowing and sanding par ays and
boulevards.
And WI�II�EAS, This emergency arose by reason of the fol owing facts
� and circumstances:
Seasonal requirements for protection of public property
� and pursuit of departmental activities, suchlasf Givic �•
events and municipal sports and playground programs
required increased time and effort of an unforeseen but
temporary nature; breakdown of equipment necessitated
irranediate repairs; during the heating season; the plant
� for the Zoo and Greenhouse must be tended c�.stantly;
skating rinks must be maintained seven days �a week; rain,
. snow and ice caused ha.zardous conditions; arid buildi ng
and maintairu.ng ice rink in Hamm square. � � '
TF�REFQRE, BE IT R�SSOLVED, Tha,t the proper city officers are hereby
authorized to pay the employees who performed snch work in
accordance with the provisions of the Councilis salary ordinance,
Orclinance No. 6l�.l�.6.
