June 10, 1g64 � Honorable George Vavoulis, Mayor and Members of the St. Paul City Council Gentlemen: Following some objections by adjacent property owners, and particu- larly the Neil and Hubbard Company at-99 N. Snelling Ave. , the City Coun- cil referred back to the Traffic Committee the matter of installing per- manent parking restrictions oh Snelling Ave. between Laurel and the alley south of Summit. The parking restrictions were proposed to provide left turn slots at the intersections along this portion of Snelling as well as increasing the existing inadequate lane widths. The Traffic Committee reconsidered the matter at their regular meet- ing on June 8, 1964 and recommended permanent parking restrictions on Snelling from Portland to the alley south of Summit. This will enable left turn .slots to be painted at the major intersections of Summit and Grand. It wlll not permit turn slo�s at Portland, Ashland or Laurel , and it will also require some tapering of the through lanes between the slots provided at Selby and at Summit. The Committee was quite reluctant to change their original recom- mendation and indicated they would restudy this matter in the spring of 1965. At that time Interstate 94 between Snelling and Rice is expected to be open resulting. in considerably increased traffic volumes on Snell- ing Ave. The delay will also permit the Neil and Hubbard Company to con- sider alternate solutions to their operational problems caused by inade- quate off-street space.
