RESOLUTION IN CELEBRATION OF THE 60TY ANNIVERSARY OF
TFIE CHURCH OF SAINT PASCAL BAYLON

WHEREAS, in 1946 eighteen families dedicated to their faith and to the vision of a Catholic community ministering
to the East Saint Paul metro azea joined together to form the first parish of the Church of Saint Pasca] Baylon; and
WHEREAS, on May 28, 1946, Archbishop John Gregory Murray assigned Father John Vincent Ryan as the first
pastor of the church and the first Mass for the parish took place in June of that year; and
WHEREAS, the parish has continued to minister to the East Saint Paul metro area since the early years of gathering
at the Itamsey County Correctional FaciliTy for Boys, the Norton family home, and quonset huts on White Bear
Avenue; to the creation in 1949 of a permanent church and school building; additions to the school building in ] 959
and 1963; and the construction of the new church building and renovation of the school in 2002; and
WHEItEAS, Saint Pascal's serves as a community gathering place welcoming fish fry dinners, senior citizen
activities, Bible study, adult enrichment, club meetings, Vacation Bible School, preschool daycare, choir groups,
weddings, worship, and more; and
WHEREAS, Saint Pascal Baylon Catholic School has been educating students in kindergarten through 8`" grade
since 1950; with a dedicated faculty and a committed church community teaching young people to be active in their
own educations and to reach out to the broader world: and
WHEREAS, On Sunday, May 21, 2006, the Church of Saint Pascal Baylon is celebrating 60 years of ministry to the
East Saint Pau] Metro Area;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council declares Sunday, May 21, 2006 to be
THE CHURCH OF SAINT PASCAL BAYLON DAY
in the City of Saint Paul.
