1 WHEREAS, Earth Day is Saturday, April 22, 2006 and has been celebrafed annually since its inception on
2 Apri122, 1970; and

4 WHEREAS, the City Council and Mayor embraced environmental sustainability as a priority and created
5 initiarives to ensure that the City of Saint Paul will continue to provide an excellent quality of life for its
6 citizens; and

8 WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul has been recognized by environmental institutions as a narional leader
9 in environmental stewardship; and

WHEREAS, Earth Day gves us an opporUinity to both recommit to our goals and reflect on our progress
towards cleaner, geener and economically viable City with policies that promote the maintenance and
improvement of our natura] environment; and now, therefore be it
RESOLVED, that the City of Saint Paul gratefully acknowledges the honor bestowed by the Green Guide
Institute as one of the ten greenest cities in America; and be it
FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City of Saint Paul gratefully acknowledges the Cool Cities accolade
from the Sierra Club, which specifically recognized of our dedication to climate protection and COZ
reduction; and be it
FINALLY RESOLVED, that the City of Saint Paul recognizes the 37` celebration of Earth Day, and urges
residents to incorporate conservation habits into everyday life, and seazch out resources and products
which will preserve our environment for generations to come.
