AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE SAINT PAUL
LEGISLATIVE CODE, CHAPTER 325 „ AS AMENDED,
PERTAINING.TO PET SHOPS. THIS JS AN EMER-
GENCY ORDINANCE RENDERED'NECESSARY FOR THE
PRESERVATION OF THE PUBLIC PEACE,-HEALTH
AND SAFETY.
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAINT PAUL DOES ORDAIN:
Section 1. That Chapter 325 of the Saint Paul Legisla-
tive Code, entitled "Pet Shops ", be and the same hereby is amended
by deleting the present sections thereof, Sections 325.01 through
325.07, and substituting in lieu and in place thereof the follow-
ing sections under the chapter heading "Pet Shops ":
325.01. Definitions. As used in this chapter, unless
the content otherwiseTdicates: -
(a) "Person" shall be intended to mean every natural
person, firm, partnership, association or corporation.
(b) "Pet Shop" shall be intended to mean every place
.� kept or maintained for the care, exhibition for sale, sale
0 or purchase of live foxes, bears, wolves,`dogs, cats, monkeys
K rabbits, or other small animals, or any birds, reptiles or
y fish, but shall not be intended-to mean Veterinary Hospitals.

0 325.02. License Required. No person shall keep or main-
tain a pet shop within the limits of the City of Saint Paul
v without first having obtained a license so to do in accordance
with the terms and provisions of this chapter.
325.03. Conditions. Every person keeping or maintain-
ing a pet shop shaii,a so entirely within a closed building,
shall not keep or maintain any outside kennel service, and
shall be subject to and shall comply with all of the rules
and regulations of the Bureau of Health.-

325.04. Fee. The amount which shall be paid , for a license
fee under the firms of this chapter shall be the suni of Thirty
Dollars (30.00) per year. Application for said license shall
be made to the Office of the City Clerk.
325.05. Licensing.Restrictions. No person zii�.1 be

time prior to the application for his license, been duly con -

provisions of this ordinance, or of any of the provisions of
the statutes of the State of Minnesota pertaining to the care
and treatment of animals.
325.06. Records. Every person engaged in the business
of keeping or main 'a�3'ning any such pet shop for the purchase,
exhibition for sale, or sale, of any live animals, shall keep
a book in which shall be clearly entered, in ink, at the time
of each purchase or sale, an accurate account in the English
language, of any such live animal so purchased or sold, in-
cluding the name and residence of the person by or to whom
such purchase or sale is made.
325.07. Inspection. The record herein required to be
kept, as well as the premises of each licensee, shall at all
reasonable times, be open to inspection and examination by
the license inspectors and health inspectors of the City of
Saint Paul.
325.08. Exhibition. The provisions of this chapter
shall not apply to persons or places selling only frogs, fish,
worms or reptiles for use as live bait for fishing.
Section 2. This ordinance is hereby declared to be an
emergency ordinance rendered necessary for the preservation of the
public peace, health and safety.
Section 3. This ordinance shall take effect and be in
force upon its passage, approval and publication.
