WHEREAS, The United States Senate Committee on Public Works, Special
Sub-Committee on Air and 4Jater Pollution is scheduled to hold public hear-
ings on April 6th, 8th and 9th, 1965, on a Bill S. 306 to amend the Clean
Air Act to provide, in part, that the Secretary of Health, Education and
welfare would be authorized to make grants to municipalities in an amount
up to two-thirds of the cost of the construction of facilities which are
designed to eliminate air pollution resulting from the disposal of solid
waste, and
• WHEREAS, Studies to date of the present solid waste disposal system
in Saint Paul indicate a need for a program of construction of such facil-
ities, and
41HEREAS, Implementation of said provisions of said bill could be of
great benefit to the citizens of Saint Paul and nearby areas in terms of
promoting clean air, the granting of financial aid and the expediting of
the necessary program, and
WHEREAS, The City of Saint Paul anticipates the availability of the
required iocal funds through bonding authority in the amount of $2,000,000
being requested of the Minnesota State Legislature,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the City Council of Saint Paul
hereby endorses and urges favorable action on S. 306 a bill to amend the
Clean Air Act.
