2 OF SEN LOCAL 26
4 WHEREAS, there are over 4,000 members of SEIU Loca126 providing quality janitorial
5 services in the Twin Cities area; and,
WHEREAS, during this month of December, the janitors are in negotiations for a new
contract with their employers; and,
10 WI�REAS, these dedicated employees are justly seeking access to affordable health care
i l and maintenance of full-time employment; and,

13 WHEREAS, janitors who do not have access to health insurance through their employers
14 are forced to rely on state-subsidized care or forgo coverage altogether, creating serious
15 consequences for tax-payers, the over-burdened public medical system, and our community
16 as a whole; and,

18 VVFIEREAS, downtown office buildings are not cleaned by magical elves, they are cleaned
19 by hard-working janitors with real families;
20
21 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council calls upon
22 building maintenance companies and major employers to reflect upon their actions during
23 this holiday season, to negotiate in good faith, and to ensure a healthy and prosperous New
24 Year for all.
