• Honorable Mayor Vaooulis and City Council Members ,
Court House
Saint Paul, Minnesota
Gentlemen:
A little over a year ago the property owners along Lexington Parkway
,appeared en masse at a council meeting in regard to the widening of
Ij
ti Lexington Parkway, and they expressed their concern that the resurfacing
►, and widening would result in greater use of the street by commercial
vehicles and heavy trucks. They were assured by the council that this
would not be permitted. Now one year later we find that it is an im
possible situation to police. Since the street has been improved, it has, ,..
} received greater use than ever before. Many out of town busses going to
M1 the municipal stadium use this route. Last Friday July 30 over forty
Twin City busses went to and from the stadium over this route. Even grain
and cattle trucks use this parkway; therefore, we request that Lexington
* be restored to full parkway status, and that the signs which formerly were
at Randolph, St. Clair, Grand Avenue, etc. be re- installed as soon as
Possible. We feel that the signs will at least inform truck drivers and
out of town drivers that it is not a truck route.
Hoping to receive favorable consideration, we remain
Sincerely yours,
1

Mr. Stephen Maxwell
Corporation Counsel
St. Paul, Minnesota
Dear Mr. Maxwell:
Copy of attached petition was referred by the City Council
to this department instructing that signs be placed on
Lexington Avenue to prevent truck traffic.
On January 5, 1963, the Truck Route Ordinance neglected
to designate Lexington Parkway as a parkway (C. F. 210402,
Ordinance 12372).
Please prepare an ordinance restoring Lexington Parkway to
full parkway status from the north city limits to West Seventh
Street.
I plan to introduce the ordinance as soon as it is received from
your office.
Sincerely,
Pte''
Frank L. Loss
