SUBJECT: Job 972 - Civic Education Buildfing
Dear Sir:
During the progress of the work on subject project, there have
been some problems with the mortar joints in the stone facing
on the retaining walls and the sculpture platforms. The con-
tractor, Lovering Construction Company, has repointed this
work twice since it was originally installed, at his expense,
and we find there is considerable. cracking again. Sin -ce
the contractor had some other work to do in connection With
the stone facing and since some of the joints were such that
they had to be repointed anyway, we have asked this contractor
to quote us a price for installing a thiokol caulking in place
of repointing with mortar as was originally specified for this
job.
The contractor has quoted us a price of $623.48 for the materi-
al. We have checked this quotation with Ellerbe & Co., our as-
sociate architect on this job, and they indicated this was a
reasonable price for the material and labor. We, therefore,
recommend that an extra be approved and that the Lovering Con-
struction Company contract be increased by $623.48.
