WHEI2EAS, the City of Saint Paul Legislative Code, Section 162.05, requires that
the reasonable daily storage expense of the Saint Paui Police impound lot be established by
resolution of the council of the City of St. Paul; and
WHEREAS, the Saint Paul Police impound lot charges the same reasonable daily
storage expense on all impounded vehicles regardless of size, weight, or length, and
WHEREAS, the standard passenger vehicle as generally 15-22 feet in length
according to United States automotive industry classifications; and
WHEREAS, agents of the City of Saint Paul regulazly impound over-sized vehicles
such as motor coaches and school buses, recreational vehicles, camper)semi-trailer
combinations, and truck-tractor/semi-trailer combinations; and
WHEREAS, the storing of such over-sized vehicies at the impound lot uses
storage capacity in excess of that used by standard passenger vehicles; and
WHEREAS, space for storing vehicles in the impound lot is limited and finite; and
WHEREAS, the Saint Paul Police Deparhnent desires this inequity be addressed
and the Saint Paul Police Department be allowed to charge reasonable daily storage
expenses for over-sized vehicles, to wit:
For "over-weighY' vehicles as defined in City of St. Paui Legislative Code,
Section 157.04, which is any vehicle, with or without load, which weighs more than
six thousand (b,000) pounds or is registered for a gross weight of more than nine
thousand (9,000) pounds or is greater than twenty-two (22) feet in lengih and/or
seven and one-half (7 1/2) feet in height the daily storage expense would be
double the authorized daily storage expense. This includes but is not limited
to recreational vehicles and camperlsemi-trailer combinations greater than twenty-
two feet in length, but does not include public urility vehicles, authorized
emergency vehicles and/or those vehicles currently owned and operated by a
federal, state and locai governn7ental subdivision.

34 For all vehicles greater than twenty eight and one-half (28 1/2) feet in length,
35 including but not limited to recreational vehicles and camper/semi-trailer combinations,
36 but not including public urility vehicles, authorized emergency vehicles and/or those
37 vehicles currently owned and operated by a federal, state and local governmental

FINALLY RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council hereby authorizes the Saint Paul
Police Deparhnent impound lot to increase the daily storage expense for over-sized
vehicles pursuant to Saint Paul Legislarive Code, Secfion 162.05.
