Q`j Council �'i1e # �� � � Greeu Sheet # Z � � 4�� RESOLUTION CIT�( OF SAINT PAUL, MINNESOTA ('��}\ ,� ,,.� Presentey3 � ..: 1 RESOLUTIONREQUESTINGADMINISTRATIONCOORDINATIONOFKATRINAFLOODRELIEF 2 FOR SURVIVORS SEEKING IMIv1EDIATE HELP IN SA1NT PAUL 3 WIlEREAS, on Sept. 5, 2005, Mayor Randy Kelly was named by Governor Tim Pawlenty to coordinate 4 with Minnesota mayors to find shelter for hurricane survivors seeking refuge in Minnesota, with the 5 e�ectation that as many as 3,000 evacuees may come here; and 6 WkIEREAS, this urgent need is beyond the ability of any single nonprofit arganization, church group or 7 group of volunteers to address, and requires a coordinated response by the City of St. Paul, Ramsey County, 8 the Metropolitan Council, the States ofMinnesota azid Wisconsin and the Federal Emergency Management 9 Administration; and 10 WHEREAS, 710 needy families aiready have arrived in the Twin Cities, survivors of the devastation of 11 Hurricane Katrina, and more families are expected to arrive daily; and 12 WfIEREAS, the Saint Paul Council of Churches convened an emergency meeting of community leaders 13 today, Sept. 14, seeking to immediately link hurricane survivars with the full range of housing, food, 14 clothing for fali and winter, cash, transportation and moral support to heip them rebuild their lives; 15 therefore be it 16 17 RESOLVED that the City Council requests that the Administration work with all units of government and 18 all local, metropolitan,�counry, state and natianal non-profits agettcies as well as private relief efforts to ] 9 coordinate their work in Saint Paul, and be if further 20 RESOLVED, that the City Council of Saint Paui requests that the Administration immediately announce 21 a central clearinghouse far coordination of emergency shelter and support services far survivors seeking 22 help in Saint Paul and be it 23 FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council requests the Administration report to the City Council on 24 these issues at the September 21, 2005 Council meeting.
