The Honorable Mayor and Members
of the St. Paul City Council
Gentlemen:

Ext. 343 -344
As you are aware, Eltor A. Dehn has been absent from the Council Chambers
for the past several months. Recently he visited my office and advised
me that on the advice of his physician he would retire at the termination
of his sick leave and has submitted his resignation.
Members of the Council who have been associated with Mr. Dehn for a longer
term than I have know the value of the services he has performed for the
city over a long period of years. The Civil Service records show that
Mr. Dehn originally was employed in the Building Department in November,
1923. His association with the Finance Department began on January 1 of
1925. In August of 1942 he was appointed Assistant Valuation and Assess-
ment Engineer, and in April of 1959 became the city's Valuation and Assess-
ment Engineer. In both these capacities he has performed extremely valuable
service to the city in the acquisition of sites required for public dse,
in the expanding and development of our traffic arteries, in the direction
of the activities related to the spreading of assessments, in his service
on the Technical Committee, and on the varied assignments which the Council
has given this department.
It is with regret that the resignation of Mr. Dehn is accepted, and I feel
that the Council should, by suitable resolution, express to Mr. Dehn its
appreciation for the many years he has devoted to the city's service.
Sincerely yours,
V es J. sh
