Re: Max Metxger Music Collecrion
Dear Mr. Bell,
At the request of Mary Livingston I reviewed the catalog of music owned by Max
Metzger to ascertain approacimate value of the collection. Such an attempt is probably
somewhat futile, because the value will vary so much depending on the perception of the
reviewer. This auempt was probably more successful than most would be because Max'
collection is quite consistenfly quality editions. I va'lued the collection at seven thousand
and 55 dollazs ($7055.00). This value was deternuned by approxima6ng what one might
be willing to pay for each of the full band editions and assigning a flat value to each of
the octavo editions. While one can quibble with individual decisions I suspect the overall
number is quite accurate.
You might want to know something of my background to determine the quality of this
estimate. I hold a PhD in Musicology from the University of Minnesota and have also
been actively involved with conducring concert bands for more than 40 years. Most of
the music in the collection is actually familiar to me.
I trust this estimate will meet your needs. Please feel free to contact me if you have
questions.
Cordially,
 G
